Morris County Jail Roster

The Morris County, New Jersey jail roster is a public resource that allows you to learn about individuals currently in custody at the county correctional facility. MorrisCourt.us provides the ability to search for publicly available information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, information can be obtained through the official website of the Morris County Sheriff, by visiting the facility in person, or by calling the correctional institution. The search in the roster enables citizens to check the custody status of a specific person, find out the charges brought, and the date of detention. The roster is maintained by the Morris County Correctional Facility, and the data is updated regularly.

Search Current Inmates in Morris Jail

There are several ways to find information about an inmate currently held in the Morris County correctional facility.

Online Search

  1. Go to MorrisCourt.us to start searching for publicly available court records and inmate information.
  2. To check state-level criminal cases, use the PROMIS/Gavel Public Access system — it covers New Jersey Supreme Court cases.
  3. If the person has been convicted and transferred to a state facility, check the New Jersey Department of Corrections offender search system.
  4. For municipal offenses, the municipal court case search is available.

To start your search, you will need:

  • The person's full legal name
  • Booking number, if known

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster — their records are protected by state law.

Find Morris Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially processed into the correctional facility. It is the first document that records a person's custody.

During the booking procedure, the following information is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • List of charges brought
  • Name of the arresting agency
  • Personal data of the detainee (name, date of birth, photo)

To find these records online, start with MorrisCourt.us. If the case has already been brought to court, charge details often appear in the Find a Case database on the New Jersey court system portal. For individuals transferred to state-level facilities, the Department of Corrections maintains a separate offender search database.

If you need an official certified document rather than just a screen view, submit a request for copies of records. In New Jersey, public records are governed by the Open Public Records Act (OPRA). The request can be sent directly to the correctional facility or to the Superior Court Clerk's Office — depending on the type of document.

Search the Morris Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

By Last Name

Enter the last name in the appropriate field. Adding a first name narrows the results, which is especially useful for common last names. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — even one letter can change the result
  • If the system supports partial search, try entering just the first few letters of the last name
  • For alternative spellings (hyphen, apostrophe), try both options

By Booking Number

This method provides the most accurate result. The booking number is usually provided at the time of arrest or can be obtained by calling the facility.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a record does not always mean the person was not detained. Here's what to check:

  1. The person may have already been released — the roster only displays those currently in custody.
  2. There may be a delay of several hours between the actual detention and the appearance of the record in the system.
  3. The person may have been transferred to another facility or to the state correctional system.
  4. The name may have been entered incorrectly — try alternative spellings.

If none of the options worked, call the correctional facility directly at 973-285-6868.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Morris

The Morris County Correctional Facility inmate roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not occur instantly. There is usually a time lapse between the moment of physical detention and the appearance of the record in the online system — from several hours to a day.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Booking delay. New records appear only after the full processing procedure is completed, which includes fingerprinting, photographing, and data entry.
  • Disappearance of records after release. When a person is released on bail, by court decision, or after serving their term, their record disappears from the current roster. The roster is not an archive of all past detentions.
  • Transfers. If an inmate is transferred to a state-level facility, the record may disappear from the county roster but appear in the NJ Department of Corrections system.
  • Confidential records. Juvenile cases, certain categories of psychiatric detentions, and records sealed by court order are not displayed in public access.

To obtain historical data on past bookings, submit a written request in accordance with OPRA directly to the correctional facility or to the county clerk's office. The online registry of the Morris County Clerk may contain related public documents. For court records, use the Find a Case portal, which covers civil, criminal, and family cases at the New Jersey Supreme Court level.
